Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

three pairs of footprints// x-day

I’m still working on the projects on Free Code Camp, though very slowly, and often I get stuck going in the wrong direction. Most recently, I have created a cat-shaped calculator, and I’m still working on the Pomodoro clock project. MLS commented that half the time spent on the zipline projects are actually research, which is surprisingly true.

I applied to the Learn IT, Girl program last year, and have been accepted as a scholar. I have a mentor(!), and the project will be in JavaScript. Normally, you’re supposed to pick a new language, but I think this time around they allowed mentees to explore a new area, rather than start a new language, depending on their knowledge. My original idea involved exploring WebGL and audio. The more research I do, though, it seems I might be using SVG and the web audio API to control it. The program runs until the end of spring…I think I need to read a bit more to figure out the kinds of questions I should be asking when starting project.

I’m currently learning PHP (and SQL, but it’s not a language) at work  and absorbing a lot from the more senior designers. I tend to not think about scale, since I’ve mostly worked on small projects, so this is something I’ve been trying to put into practice.

This book recommends a software that doesn’t exist anymore as the main part of the tutorial. Borrowed it from the public library; don’t buy.

I’m not entirely sure where this will go. When I was asked by my mentor why I was interested in the Learn IT, Girl program, I was a little hesitant in my answering. I am interested in programming for fun, and hopefully to use towards an interactive art practice in the future, and learning web development seems like a detour in itself. But I really am enjoying myself, there are challenges  I can’t solve alone (in a timely fashion).

I do want to continue working on multimedia content, and JavaScript…is just an extension of that. I’ll probably still be a designer (what kind? not sure) for a long time, and even if I did learn some web development. I’m still not comfortable with labeling myself as “full-stack web developer,” or a “front-end developer,” or a “front-end designer.” Is there something so truly wrong with having the title of a visual, graphic or web designer, or must you be a (software) product-type? After traversing the co-op work system, you realize that you have to be adaptive because you’ll always be the most junior person on the team, no matter what you do.

It exists. *I don’t own a Macbook, despite the drawing.

I’m a little interested in motion graphic design (and maybe VR) in the future, but as usual, one step at a time.

Still debating whether to get a Skillshare account to take a few courses. Some are free. Though, there’s also registering with RGD to consider…

Happy Lunar New Year!

Textures created by Borbone.

Bonus: 心想事成 x Immenseness Ticket S for Robostrike! Hopefully we’ll hunt together again when Monster Hunter X comes out in English.

金猴年到 – “Golden monkey year is here.” Furious Rajang is written as “金獅子”(golden lion), but I chose the monkey interpretation.
出入平安 – “May your travels be safe.”
年年有余 – “May you have surplus and remainders year after year.” 余 sounds like 魚(fish).
心想事成 – “May your wishes come true.” I am reading 心想 as “heart’s desire.”
